Automotive Parts Associates Announces Scholarship Recipients for 2019-20 Academic Year

The APA scholarships, administered by the University of the Aftermarket Foundation, are awarded annually to students who are attending, or will attend, a two- or four-year accredited college; an ASE/NATEF certified post-secondary automotive, heavy duty or collision technician training program; or any licensed and accredited vocational school.

Automotive Parts Associates (APA) has awarded four scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year to the children or employees of APA shareholders.

The following individuals have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by APA:

  • Lourdes Blazquez of Philadelphia, PA
  • Jessica Steinberg of New Hope, PA
  • Alexander Tetzlaff of Muskego, WI
  • Brock Westermayer of Burnsville, MN

The APA scholarships, administered by the University of the Aftermarket Foundation (UAF), are awarded annually to students who are attending, or will attend, a two- or four-year accredited college; an ASE/NATEF certified post-secondary automotive, heavy duty or collision technician training program; or any licensed and accredited vocational school. Once a student has applied for an APA scholarship, the applicant is also considered for other scholarships available through the foundation’s Automotive Aftermarket Scholarships Central website.

“We are excited to be able to help provide the means for students within the Automotive Parts Associates family pursuing a secondary education. We are proud to be able to give a hand up toward the future to the families within our organization and their communities,” said APA Director of Operations Judy Sanell.

Ignition System Do’s and Don’ts

Your first tool for diagnosing an ignition issue is your eyes. Spend some time inspecting the coil’s connector, boot and the spark plug. Often the cause of an ignition system problem will present itself.

One of the most basic circuits found on every gasoline-powered vehicle is the ignition coil. This transformer takes low-voltage, high-amperage current and changes it into high-voltage current. It has two windings that are not physically connected. What connects them is magnetism. The primary creates an electromagnetic field when system voltage is applied. When the power is turned off, the magnetic field collapses. The energy from the primary is transformed by the secondary windings into high-voltage power that can jump the gap between the electrodes of the spark plug; this is called inductance.
