Magid introduces the flagship product in its sustainable product line – the GP102 General Purpose Work Glove.

Magid has announced the company is switching away from the traditional process of manufacturing micro-foam nitrile coated gloves, which wastes an enormous amount of drinkable water.

Just one 40-foot container of traditional micro-foam nitrile coating uses an entire year’s worth of drinking water for 688 people, the company reported.

The company proudly stated that its GP102 general purpose work glove’s foam nitrile palm coating uses no drinking water at all. Magid is putting this new coating onto a glove shell that’s made with 90% recycled GRS-certified yarn and packaged in 100% recycled, earth-friendly material.

Honored by Environmental Protection’s 2023 New Product of the Year, this new foam coating is softer and more flexible than standard nitrile, while maintaining the oil and water resistance of traditional foam nitrile.

Magid’s Environmental Efforts

Solar Power – In 2018, Magid topped their 700,000 sq ft. facility with the largest privately held rooftop solar array in the Midwest with over 10,000 photovoltaic solar panels.

  • The array will provide energy over its lifetime equivalent to removing 40,000 gas-powered cars from the roads.
  • That reduces their carbon emissions by approximately 5,700 metric tons of CO2 each year.

Special storage batteries allow them to participate in an energy consortium that provides stabilizing voltage regulation for the Eastern Interconnection Power Grid, serving 13 states and Washington D.C.

Greener Manufacturing & Sustainable Packaging – Every new Magid product line is packaged in cardboard sleeve packaging instead of plastic polybags. They use the latest technology in computer-assisted laser leather cutting in both their Romeoville, Illinios, and Philippines manufacturing plants to minimize leather waste. And like the GP102, all their future product innovations will be made only from recycled yarn polymers wherever possible.

Reduce | Reuse | Recycle – Magid takes any practical opportunity to reuse, reduce and recycle materials. They’re always on the lookout for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and keep materials such as cardboard, plastics, metals and para-aramids out of the landfill.

“We work every day to find ways to achieve our sustainability goals,” said Gary Cohen, senior director global product strategy & quality at Magid. “We’re on a journey to continuously review our practices and products to make them greener, review the life cycle of every new product to make improvements throughout the supply chain, and to choose like-minded suppliers for our distribution business.”
