Women at the Wheel 2023: Foluke Houston-Gaddis

2023 Honoree

Senior Manager, Global Talent Acquisition
Cooper Standard Automotive

What is one of your proudest accomplishments of your career?

My proudest accomplishments are not one instance, but my overall goal and actions to increase the percentage of women in this industry. While everyone involved plays a part, I’ve been intentional in the three years I’ve been in the auto business to connect other women with learning opportunities, promote their participation at industry events as speakers or representatives, and refer them for any available positions I am aware of. Also, I am extremely proud of my participation and leadership within employee resource groups, most recently, serving on the leadership team for Cooper Standard’s Black Employee Resource Group — Cooper Standard African American Network (CAAN). Every day, I am provided the opportunity to help others while advocating for diversity and equity, and being a part of CAAN allows me to promote and cultivate inclusion and belonging while working with a fantastic cross-functional team with similar goals.

What is your best advice to other women who want to excel in the automotive industry?

Do Not Assume — Ask. Do not assume leadership knows what you need or wants to support your success; inform them. Actively seek out challenging new experiences, whether in the form of a new role, stretch assignment or development opportunity that drives change. Speak up if a role or project interests you. Engage with a mentor or sponsor who will champion and advocate for you, when opportunities become available. If you don’t have one already, find a mentor or a sponsor.
