How has your military background shaped your career in the automotive sector?
My role at NextGear is to lead the Product and Engineering function. I need to understand people and technology. We have to be adaptable, and we need to be able to think on our feet. As a Naval Flight Officer, who flew in an aircraft whose mission was electronic warfare, I was trained to do all of those things. In particular, I would say my time in the military was great preparation for being able to function under pressure and keeping things in perspective.
What advice do you have for fellow veterans pursuing a career in this industry?
Be flexible. Be willing to learn. And concentrate on adding value.
