How has your military experience influenced your career in the automotive industry?

My military experience has provided me with the team-building skills necessary to lead others in the automotive industry. Over the years, I have found that this industry has given me the opportunity to combine my military and business background, along with my love of all things mechanical into a lifelong career.

What are some of the ways you have seen the industry support veterans?

This is the 10th year of JPMorgan Chase’s Office of Military & Veterans Affairs, which is focused on providing opportunities for business growth, career skills, financial health resources and community development for veterans and their families. I especially appreciate the veteran-led internal Business Resource Group (BRG) that collaborates across regions and provides opportunities for professional growth and connections across the firm. They host many events including a veteran recognition day, and often bring in active duty and retired guest speakers to cover a variety of topics of interest to our military veterans.

What is one piece of advice you have for veterans entering the industry?

Focus on the skills you learned during your time in the military and how they will translate to your position or the one you are seeking. For example, leadership, flexibility, team building, discipline and a strong work ethic all help you grow in the automotive industry. Also, stay active with local veterans’ organizations for camaraderie, networking opportunities and charitable activities.
