More than 25,000 books were collected and distributed to service members throughout the world.
San Antonians cleared out their bookshelves for Operation Book Drop, a citywide book drive for military service members and reservists serving in combat zones around the world.
Gunn Auto Group partnered with Soldiers’ Angels, a San Antonio-based national nonprofit that provides services and support to both active duty and retired service members and their families as well as reservists, and those recuperating in veterans affairs hospitals and veterans’ homes.
The drive took place Jan. 16-21, with the goal of collecting 5,000 books.
Due to the overwhelming generosity from San Antonio, also known as Military City USA, Gunn Gives, Gunn Auto Groups volunteer corps and volunteers from Soldiers’ Angels sorted, boxed and shipped more than 25,000 books weighing some 15,000 pounds.
Books were sent around the world to deployed service members in locations such as Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Closer to home, books were shared with Joint Base San Antonio, Houston Reserve Centers, Washington D.C. National Guard centers and the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center.
Each of the five San Antonio area Gunn Auto dealerships and two collision centers served as collection points.
