AFIP Announces COVID-19 Car Dealer Workaround

The training can be conducted in three consecutive days or broken into segments over a two-week period. All that’s required is a computer and access to high-speed internet.

AFIP opens its virtual classroom to all constituents to accommodate dealer and employee constraints during the coronavirus pandemic.

The nonprofit Association of Finance & Insurance Professionals opened its live online interactive state and federal regulation certification program to all dealership, finance source and aftermarket product provider personnel working at home during the pandemic. The price of the Basic course is reduced by $100 for those who pay by credit card and complete the course in April.

“Our virtual classroom was developed for mega-clients who need to certify large numbers of people in various locations. As it turns out, it’s a natural solution for the COVID-19 stay-at-home mandate,” said Shannon Robertson, AFIP executive vice president. “We’ve been fielding calls from our dealer and dealership provider clients searching for meaningful work for the hundreds of homebound employees on the company payroll,” he added.

The virtual classroom can be tailored to the individual needs of each client. The training can be conducted in three consecutive days or broken into segments over a two-week period. All that’s required is a computer and access to high-speed internet.

“This training solution is also ideal for dealerships that have stayed open, but are observing social distancing,” said Robertson. “Employees can work separately from their cubicles or workstations.”

Since opening for business in 1989, AFIP has conducted more than 70,000 certifications of individuals working for dealerships, finance sources and aftermarket product providers. According to executive director David Robertson, “We have record of less than 10 certified individuals getting their dealer in trouble. AFIP’s unique combination of live state and federal regulation certification, supported by proctored testing and an enforced code of ethics, works.”
