The core brand of the VW Group might be in quite a predicament and is taking certain measures, but Porsche is doing very nicely, thank you, with its current portfolio.

, the Stuttgart-based brand has a relatively fresh line-up and doesn’t intend to go below a certain threshold, meaning the718 Boxster
and Macan, which are its most affordable sports car and SUV, respectively.
“There is absolutely no intention to go below what we have today”, global sales chief Detlev von Platen toldAutonews
at the opening of thePorsche Experience Center in Los Angeles
, refuting speculation that a smaller crossover, which would slot below theMacan
, was in the works.
“We are an exclusive sports car manufacturer”, said von Platen. “We have nothing to gain by creating a cheaper Porsche in the future. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality in what we do.”
Porsche believes that, by going in lower niches would devalue their brand – and they could be right. That’s not to say that they’re resting at their laurels. In fact, they are planning to expand, but in different ways.

concept, future investments “will go more in the development of new services around the car”, such as helping the driver locate a parking spot and pay for it quickly, von Platen explained.
