The new engine is more powerful than the current diesel Audi SQ5 TDI Plus, which has 335bhp, but doesn't match its 700Nm of torque, or its 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds. There's no word on a diesel version yet, currently the only version available in the UK.
Audi claims a CO2 figure of 189g/km and economy of 34mpg, but the current SQ5 Plus also beats those figures, returning 42.8mpg and 174g/km of CO2. However the new V6 petrol features a variable profile that means it's able to save fuel more easily when being driven carefully.
As you'd expect, the SQ5 features quattro all-wheel drive and an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, as well as active torque control that can brake the inside wheels as you enter a corner to improve the car's dynamic ability.
In terms of looks, the SQ5 gets sportier bumpers at the front and back, plus new vents and a diffuser to give it a pumped-up look. The grille is new as well, with aluminium trim detials to set it apart form standard models. The twin exhausts finish the look, as well as the big alloy wheels.
Inside there's a leather steering wheel, leather sports seats and brushed aluminium trim pieces. Kit includes LED headlights and there's optional Nappa leather, too.
The SQ5 will be available in Europe from mid-2017, and we expect a UK arrival in the second half of the year.
